Dawn
15'2hh 1990 Mare
Racing Name - Ted's Lass

April 2007 - Although some people consider what I do rescue work I am lucky enough to deal with some very good people who value and care greatly for their horses. Not so lucky where a group of Standardbred mares and foals in Bridgewater, Victoria, who where found on the brink of death.

Dawn was in the best condition of the 4 mares and 2 foals but still needed lot of care to get her back to full heath.
27/05/07 - Dawn arrives in BredboAfter the long trip from Victoria, Dawn spent the weekend with Vincent Field Transport before making the final leg of her journey out to Bredbo. Many thanks to Tim from Vincent Field for taking such good care of her. She is in much better condition than I expected and is certainly a big girl. It will be wonderful to eventually see some meat on those bones.

Well I said she would be a big girl once we had some meat on those bones and she certainly is !!! Her coat has come through beautifully and she is looking great (Yes that is her checking out our new arrival Dora)

Nina
12hh 1978 (we think??) Mare

Nina came to us in 2007 as a " 2 for 1" package with a Standardbred mare. We think she is between 30 and 35 years old. She went to Pony Club with a young friend and gave Justin his first lessons in riding and sitting a pig root!

She is now enjoying a well deserved retirement as the Matriach of the mares paddock!

 Little Nell
14'3hh 1992 Mare
Reg Harness Name - Nellies Wish

Nell is my official paddock ornament!
I regularly make noises about breaking her to saddle or putting her in our cart and who knows, one day it might happen! In the mean time she is a very beautiful paddock ornament and although she can be "Nasty Nellie" to her paddock mates is sweetness and light with her humans.

Nell was never raced but had 3 foals before she came to us. She really is a stunning mare with most people thinking she is an anglo untill they see her brands.
Her crowning glory was taking Champion Led Standardbred at '07 Cooma Show. The gelding she beat is shown regularly with much sucess in Canberra and Sydney in Standardbred and Open classes so we considered this a wonderful win.

In June 2007 Nell was hit by a car on a very foggy morning after getting out of her paddock with another mare. Luckily no one was hurt and the driver was travelling slow, but she went right up over the bonnet, ripped off the rear vision mirror and did over $4500 worth of damage to a brand new Mitsubishi Pajero When I went to find her in the fog I was fully expecting to have to make that horrible, final decision. I was amazed to find her, not only on all four, but walking around without any trouble. She did have a gash on her knee but her gum colour was good so I ruled out any internal injuries. I watched her very closely for the next few weeks and when one day she trotted the length of the paddock to come and get her feed (!!!) I figured she was well enough to go to the farm for winter. You know she doesn't even have a scar on her knee now!
I keep telling myself she is too nice just to leave in the paddock but I love her too much to move her on and I will get around to doing something with her one day! LOL
